The Chamber of Commerce of Walker County’s Junior Ambassadors are organizing their 12th annual Pets on Parade event for Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. to noon at Gamble Park.

The event will feature six different pet categories this year: cutest, best dressed, best trained, best looking, most unusual and owner look-alike. A pet can be entered in multiple categories, but there is a $5 per pet, per category entry fee. All the proceeds will go to the Walker County Humane Society’s spay and neuter program.

Linda Lewis, president of the Chamber, emphasized that all pets are eligible to enter, not just dogs and cats.

“We encourage the community to come out and support this effort,” Lewis said. “It’s a great event for a great cause.”

Lewis encouraged attendees to bring a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy the event. There will be hot dogs and drinks sold at the event, and all those proceeds will also benefit the spay and neuter program at the humane society.

All pets must be current on vaccinations and be leashed or crated. Each category will have a first, second, third and honorable mention award given.

The group is also collecting dog and cat food to be given to the Walker County Animal Shelter. Lewis said that individuals can bring donations to the event or call the Chamber at 384-4571. She also said businesses in the area who have dented or damaged pet food can call the Chamber and they will pick the food up and deliver it to the shelter.
