CORDOVA HIGH SCHOOL Locker Sales/Parking Permit Registration will be held for 10TH GRADE - Monday, Aug. 2, from 8:30 until 11 a.m.; and 9TH GRADE - Monday, Aug. 2, from 12:30 until 2:30 p.m. Lockers $15. Parking permits $20 (must provide driver’s license and proof of insurance with a current expiration date). All checks written to Cordova High School must have drivers license number, date of birth, address, and phone number.
“WORKING HANDS” SUMMER PROGRAM, sponsored by the Walker County Community Action Agency Inc., accepting applications for Walker County youth ages 8-12 years old. Program will be held Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 2-4, from 2 until 4 p.m. each day at the Agency’s offices at 644 19th Street West near downtown Jasper. Applications accepted through July 28. No charge to attend program, but families of participating children must meet eligibility guidelines based on family size and income. To see if your child qualifies, you will need to provide WCAAA with Social Security cards for everyone in household, and proof of income (or “zero” income) for everyone age 18 and over for month of June 2010. PARENT ORIENTATION FOR JASPER CITY ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS will be held on the following dates and time at each of the following schools: Memorial Park Elementary — Thursday, Aug. 5, for grades K-1-2 @ 9:30 and grades 3-4-5 @ 10:30 a.m. Both will be held in the gym; T. R. Simmons Elementary — Thursday, Aug. 5, for grades PK-K-1-2 @ 9:03 a.m. and grades 3-4-5 @ 10:30 a.m. Both will be held in the gym; and West Jasper Elementary — Thursday, Aug. 5, for grades K-1-2 @ 9:03 a.m. and grades 3-4-5 @ 10:30 a.m. Both will be held in the gym. Parents can purchase workbooks, pre-pay lunchroom money, and field trip tee-shirts at that time.
CORDOVA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PARENT/STUDENT ORIENTATION will be Thursday, Aug. 5, at 5:30 p.m. at the school. School supplies may be brought in at this time. Homeroom list will be posted on Tuesday, Aug. 3.

WINFIELD PASTIME THEATRE will present its first community theatre production, “Arsenic and Old Lace,” a 1940’s classic comedy about two darling ladies who turn murder into a charity. CORDOVA QUARTERBACK CLUB 20TH ANNUAL BLUE DEVIL DAY will be Saturday, Aug. 14, beginning at 4 p.m. at the Old Park in Cordova. Chicken dinners will also be sold beginning at 11 a.m. Businesses or vendors of arts and crafts, jewerly, clothes, etc may rent a booth for $25. Food, music, door prizes, slides, Blue Devil T-shirts, hats, etc. A political rally will be held at 6 p.m., all candidates must call to register.
