The sixth annual Walker County Home and Garden show opens today at 10 a.m. at Jasper Mall. The two-day show is sponsored by local radio stations Oldies 101.5 and 88.5 The Planet.

Station owner Brett Elmore said this year will feature new vendors who haven’t exhibited before and will include everything for the home, from landscaping to pool supplies and pest control, as well as gift items.

“It’s a great opportunity for people to come out and ask the experts about anything they need for their home,” Elmore said.

There will also be live entertainment at the show all weekend, and this year Elmore said there is another addition that makes him especially proud.

“The Red Cross will be here with the Bloodmobile from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday,” Elmore said. “This gives people a great opportunity to ger out of the house, to a free event, and they can even give blood and help someone out.”

Elmore added that the show has become a staple for many in Walker County who are excited to start home projects or repairs early in the spring. He credits the Jasper Mall and manager Marsha Massey with the success of the show.

“She has been a tremendous help over the years in putting this show together,” Elmore said. “We’re excited to be at the mall.”

The show hours will be today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, contact the station at (205) 221-2222.
