The two party chairmen will be at the Walker County Probate Judge’s Office at the end of the day Friday to help with qualifying. Walker County Republican Chairwoman Linda Ensor specified Wednesday she would be at that office from 2-5 p.m. for qualifying. more

• I was gratified to hear Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has decided to prioritize local news sources in posts in response to requests from local newspapers and to help people have more engagement with their communities. Apparently he and his wife took a cross-country trip that also made its way to Alabama, and he visited at least one newspaper in Alabama. I think it is a great idea, and it will certainly help the Daily Mountain Eagle engage with our area readers, and will help other smaller newspapers across the nation. Moreover, it will provide a way to still keep our readers engaged with breaking news and what is happening in their communities. more
There is a picture sitting next to the computer in my office. Three faces are smiling so brightly you can almost get a tan looking at the framed photo. I’m sitting between my friends Terry Frasier and Dr. Tom Camp. We’re speeding down the Black Warrior River in the back of a boat. Tom’s wife Judy was the boat captain, Jilda was the photographer, and Terry’s wife Ginny was supervising. We were having a large time. In those days, it was easy to imagine that we would live forever. But it turns out that forever was not long enough. My friend Tom died last Sunday. more
