A large turnout of parents and children turned out in chilly weather Sunday in downtown Jasper as local churches sponsored the annual Jasper Fall Fest. Games, costume characters, food, animals and other features entertained families under sunny skies. more
PARRISH — The exact number of people who attended the annual Town of Parrish Fall Festival held Thursday night is still unknown, but members of the Town of Parrish Festival Committee has estimated that between 1,500 to 2,000 people attended the event. Parrish Mayor Heather Hall said 20 organizations also participated in the Trunk or Treat that was held during the Fall Festival. more
Misty Hartley and Tina Hartley started ghost hunting in October 2014, and, though once skeptics, they are now believers in the paranormal. The best friends of 24 years, who are also sisters-in-law, describe themselves as “medium sensitive,” and say they have encountered ghosts on a number of occasions. Fundraisers this weekend for an injured student’s medical bills will include a Smith Lake fishing tournament and a dinner that will feature pro angler Gerald Swindle as a speaker. According to organizer Bart Myers of Oakman, proceeds from the Nov. 3-4 events will benefit Janey Carter, who lives near Valley Junior High School and was involved in a serious accident on July 11. more
