Imagine you are a mother who has lost not just one child but both children in a tragic accident, and you want to give back to all the people who have helped. This is what Lydia Sanders from Cordova High School wants to do, so she created the Jeremiah and Jacob Memorial Scholarship. Sanders lost her children, Jeremiah and Jacob Sanders, on March 2, 2016, in a fishing accident on the Tennessee River. Jacob, the youngest of the two brothers, was the lead bass player in the band The Velcro Pygmies. more
EASI (Equines Assisting Special Individuals) is in the running to win a gypsy vanner horse to benefit their new veterans program. The Jasper-based equine therapy group is one of 80 PATH International centers nominated to win a gypsy horse. More than 8,000 PATH designated centers in the world, EASI included, promote equine assisted activities. more
Katie Jones, who lives in District 3, told the Walker County Commission Monday she proposes the county close Hunting Club Road for her child’s safety. In the public comment time of the meeting, Jones said in April the commission reopened Hunting Club Road, which connects King’s Mill Road and Davidson Loop Road in the Oakman area. more
Retiring accounts receivable clerk Peggy Holderfield of Jasper was saluted by county workers on Monday at the Walker County Commission chamber, starting with a plaque presented at that day’s commission meeting. County Administrator Cheryl Ganey said during the meeting that Holderfield had been working in the commission office. more
