The Walker County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two people in connection with a shooting in Yerkwood that left one woman dead over the weekend. Keleil Natwand “Lele” James, 22, of Quinton, has been charged with attempted murder in the death of Jalayah Hackman, 20, of Jasper, and is being held in Walker County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond. more
DORA — Christmas was a difficult time for Christy Swan of Dora after she was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer in December. After she finished her last chemotherapy treatment on June 23, Swan’s husband, Ashley, decided that it was time for a do-over. Ashley Swan invited the couple’s family and friends to a “No Mo Chemo” surprise party at the couple’s home on July 8. more
Members of Forward Farm’s Jasper Equestrian Team (JETS) recently placed in a state 4-H competition. Annelise Hulsey, Savannah Huffman and Emma Grace Sherer all placed at the state 4-H show in Rainsville that was held July 7-9. They are all members of the Forward Horse Club, which Walker County Extension Office Agent Rebecca Persons oversees as part of the 4-H and Youth Development division. more
The Walker County Commission reviewed for local mayors recently how the proposed 1-cent sales tax on the Aug. 15 referendum will be spent if voters approve it. At Tuesday’s Jasper Civic Center meeting with the commission, the county’s mayors were given a new mailout postcard from Walker County at a Crossroads, a PAC funded by local businessmen to pass the tax. more
