Over 100 residents attended the Walker County Sheriff's Office's town hall meeting in Empire on Thursday. Sheriff Nick Smith, several WCSO personnel and Walker County Commission Chairman Jerry Bishop spoke and made themselves available after the meeting to listen to the concerns of community members. According to statistics released by WCSO, the department has answered 778 calls and made 172 arrests in Empire from January through Nov. 17. Of the arrests, 61 were for drugs, and some of those came from executing drug search warrants on four occasions.

Parrish Elementary School hosted a Thanksgiving luncheon on Thursday. Many students were joined by their parents, grandparents or other family members to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal. The school's gymnasium was transformed into a dining room by lunchroom staff and custodians who worked hard to decorate tables with festive tablecloths and decor. Officials with the Walker County Board of Education and members of the Parrish Town Council were also invited to the special occasion.
