Community members rallied around the family of Oakman's Austin Aaron, the 14-year-old killed on an ATV on Aug. 2, as he was laid to rest on Saturday. Numerous bikers showed up after family members requested that a motorcade of bikes lead the way to the burial site. More than 300 riders from as far away as south Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia attended. A balloon release was held on Saturday evening at Oakman's football field. Students and staff from other schools, including Carbon Hill High School, have reached out with messages of support.

Kindergarten students had their first day at school at T.R. Simmons Elementary on Monday. Children were busy completing STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) activities in some rooms, while other students were practicing their reading skills.
