New garbage trucks arrive at county landfill

The Walker County Commission received two ordered garbage trucks on Tuesday, one a commercial truck and another a residential truck with an automated arm to pick up trash. The purchases are expected to cut down maintenance costs, provide a spare truck and save money over time while better serving 6,500 total customers.  Commissioners said more than $500,000 has been saved in the department in recent years. Shown Thursday with the trucks at the county landfill are, from left, Walker County Chairman Jerry Bishop, District 1 Commissioner Keith Davis, County Administrator Robbie Dickerson and Interim Solid Waste Director Keith Duncan.
