CORDOVA — A Cordova man has confessed to vandalizing dozens of graves at Mt. Carmel Cemetery last week, Police Chief Nick Smith said on Monday. Joshua Hicks, 23, has been charged with first-degree criminal mischief and desecration of a gravesite. Hicks was arrested Monday afternoon and taken to the Walker County Jail, where he was expected to be released on an unsecured bond. more
DORA — Dora’s mayor is hoping to combat vandalism at a local park with a curfew. During a recent Dora City Council meeting, recent reports of vandalism at Dora Municipal Park were brought to council members’ attention. To help cut down on this problem, Mayor Randy Stephens suggested enacting a curfew at the park. more
The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) recently announced that Jasper resident Edward F. Poolos has been appointed by Gov. Kay Ivey to serve as deputy commissioner. The announcement, which also included the promotion of Scott Bannon to Marine Resources Division director, was released by the ADCNR on Friday. more
