The Jasper Elks Lodge #2571 recognized 16 officers and two paramedics at a ceremony honoring law enforcement on Thursday night.  The lodge also prepared 250 care packages for area officers and 15 shift change baskets to be distributed to local police departments.

Goode speaks at Black History Month program

Dr. Percy Goode who is a retired school administrator was the guest speaker at the Dora High School Black History Month assembly on Thursday. Goode was principal at Dora 1995 through 1999. He was also principal at Dora Jr. High and Farmstead Jr. High and was a teacher and coach at Walker County Training School. He served on the Jasper City Council and the community center in Frisco is named after him.
