Cordova City Councilman Larry Sides was the guest speaker at Cordova High School's Veterans Day program on Friday. Sides served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and lost three high school friends — Larry Black, Jerry Higgins and Sammy Smith — in the war. He later served in the National Guard and U.S. Army Reserves. CHS history instructor and Coach Tyler Kuykendall also set up a display on the auditorium stage of military uniforms, most of which were donated by CHS graduates who have served.


Curtis Batson was the guest speaker at the 12th anniversary meeting of the Fibromyalgia Support Group of Walker County on Jan. 17. Batson discussed volunteer opportunities through the local Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

Marlene Hyde of Oakman and Nina Edgil of Jasper were the winners of dolls raffled off by the Doll Haven Doll Club on Dec. 11. Proceeds from the raffle were used to help needy families at Christmas.
