HarborChase of Jasper hosted a luncheon for members of the Breast Cancer Support Group of Walker County on Tuesday. HarborChase business office manager Angie Johnson, a two-time breast cancer survivor, was among those honored at the luncheon. Johnson was diagnosed most recently in January and continued to work while undergoing treatment. Residents and staff also donated $141 to the Breast Cancer Support Group of Walker County to help fund its efforts. The luncheon included a meal and a performance by Elvis tribute artists Robert Glass.

Walker County received the Outstanding Forestry Planning Committee Award for the Northwest Region during the Alabama Landowners Conference Awards Program Oct. 15 at the Marriott Prattville Hotel and Conference Center. Members received a plaque and a $1,000 cash award. The honor goes to a committee that best exemplifies the mission of the Alabama Natural Resources Council through its programs and activities conducted throughout the past year. From left are Alabama Natural Resources Council Chair Jacob Davis, Daniel Goins, Chris Wright, Bartley Wyers, Steve Hudson, Danny Cain, Katherine Patton and Andrew Baril. The inaugural Alabama Landowners Conference was presented by the Alabama Natural Resources Council, the Alabama Tree Farm Committee and the Alabama TREASURE Forest Association.
