New library boxes in the communities of Oakman and Carbon Hill are encouraging adults and children to read. A partnership between the Walker County Arts Alliance, the Walker County Board of Education and Alabama Public Television's IQ Learning Network made the project a reality, and the Daily Mountain Eagle provided old newspaper boxes to house books in the boxes. Students at Oakman and Carbon Hill elementary schools spent the last several months cleaning the boxes and painting them, and they were recently placed in the school's respective communities. Each little library is stocked with books for community members to take a book, for free, and leave a book for another reader to enjoy. 


CARBON HILL — Students, faculty and staff at Carbon Hill schools can now feel more secure with enhanced emergency response measures in place.


OAKMAN — Belen Monleon-Gomez, a native of Spain, is spending the 2019-20 school year as an exchange student at Oakman High School.
