Ahead of the Christmas holiday, kindergarten students at T.R. Simmons Elementary School decorated gingerbread houses on Thursday with the help of their parents and teachers. Kindergartners also made candy Christmas trees. Decorating gingerbread houses in an annual tradition for kindergarten students to enjoy at the school.

Lupton Jr. High School Resource Officer Josh Harkness, at far right, taught the school's seventh-graders about civil and criminal law last week. He also discussed the juvenile justice system. Harkness has led many law-related discussions with students since he became Lupton's SRO last school year.

In what has become an annual tradition, Town of Oakman leaders and Oakman High School football players visited Oakman Elementary/Middle School Wednesday morning to help students decorate ornaments that will be placed on the town Christmas tree. Oakman will host its Christmas tree lighting tonight at 6 p.m., followed by the town's Christmas parade. A video of everyone decorating ornaments can be found on the Daily Mountain Eagle Facebook page.
